Often times, I am asked the question -- when am I going to receive, my Forklift Drivers License, or my Forklift License, or my Forklift Certification to which I answer, you receive neither of these. OSHA, and OSHA Regulations (Standards - 29 CFR) Powered industrial trucks. - 1910.178 are very strict in what they require in Forklift Safety and Forklift Training courses. In order to complete a Forklift Training Course, often called Lift Truck Training Course, the Training shall or will consist of a combination of formal instruction (e.g., lecture, discussion, interactive computer learning, video tape, written material), practical training (demonstrations performed by the trainer and practical exercises performed by the trainee), and evaluation of the operator's performance in the workplace. Upon completion of the, Forklift Safety course, the Forklift Operator will be issued a Forklift Certificate and a wallet card, showing that the operator has passed the Lift Truck Training, and has a firm understanding of the Safety Topics covered in the safety training.

The employer shall certify that each Forklift operator has been trained and evaluated as required by this paragraph (l). [ 1910.178(l)(1)(i) "MANDATE, THE EMPLOYER SHALL ENSURE" The employer shall ensure that each powered industrial truck operator is competent to operate a powered industrial truck safely, as demonstrated by the successful completion of the training and evaluation specified in this paragraph (l).] The certification shall include the name of the Fork Lift operator, the date of the training, the date of the evaluation, and the identity of the person(s) performing the training or evaluation.
